About
This is hill107.net, a site designed to present material relating to the Battle of Arnhem, the Battle of Crete and, eventually, some of the other major Airborne Operations of the Second World War.
Hill 107 is the hill overlooking Maleme airfield in Crete, the site of the initial attacks during the German airborne invasion of the island in May 1941 – codenamed ‘Unternehmen Merkur’ (‘Operation Mercury’), the first ever major airborne invasion in history. This hill is now the site of a German War Cemetery. This site’s banner image above is a modern day view taken from the top of Hill 107 looking down over Maleme airfield. The full, uncropped version of this image, together with many more, are in the Crete Gallery section of the site.
In spite of my use of the images of Crete as the site banner (used because I took the photographs and know they’re completely copyright and royalty free), the site at present focuses mainly on the Battle of Arnhem and contains all material previously included on my site nntk.net, which itself has undergone a major restyle and upgrade. This material includes newspaper reports, photographs and other historical documents contemporary (or nearly so) to Operation Market Garden and the Battle of Arnhem (17th-26th September 1944).

I hope at a later date to increase the material available on the Battle of Crete, and then extend further to other WW2 airborne operations.
